About COVID -19 (Coronavirus)
COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a recently discovered coronavirus.
Coronaviruses cause respiratory infections ranging from common colds to more severe illnesses.
The first reported cases of COVID-19 were in Wuhan City in China in December 2019.
Most people infected with COVID-19 will have mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without needing extended treatment. However, older people and vulnerable people with medical conditions like heart disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to be seriously ill.
